Description
Welding of aluminum is more complicated than that of steel because of the inherent thermophysical properties of the material. To achieve quality results, stringent process control is necessary. In this Second Edition, additional features have been added and some existing chapters merged to make the book more useful and comprehensive. Details of gas metal arc welding (GMAW) and gas tungsten arc welding (GTAW) are dealt with in separate chapters. Heat flow analysis is described using finite difference scheme and simplified heat source model. Significant coverage has been added on friction stir welding (FSW), including discussions of tool design and heat generation; explanations of the thermo-mechanically affected zone and heat-affected zone in FSW joints; properties of FSW joints; corrosion and stress corrosion cracking resistance of FSW joints; and defects and their detection.
